6 Ways to Fill the Leadership Gap to be Promotable

Organizations need leaders to negotiate the rapid change occurring in the economy.  Rather than just look to the outside, it could be incumbent upon workers to level up and be eligible for consideration. 

Managing Change Successfully.  Change requires adaptability which also goes against the instincts of many. Change is fraught with risk including unemployment. Personal Development can equip workers with the right mentality to learn continuously, develop resilience, develop relationship building skills, become good collaborators, have a growth mindset, and eager for a chance to lead in change. 

Strategic Thinking. There are at least 10 models of leadership thinking that revolve around strategic thinking. Being adept and knowing the models can make a worker valuable in leading projects and finding solutions for problems in operations, customer service, or gaining a competitive edge. 

Decision Making. Leaders and Entrepreneurs are decisive and it is even more crucial when the pressure is on. Be decisive and willing to be accountable for mistakes. This takes courage, but courage and confidence is needed in leaders. 

Taking the Initiative. Leaders take initiative because they are willing to innovate and be responsible. Fear of losing one's job may be the handcuffs that keep a worker stuck. Work with a team to analyze the data and come to a consensus on the best path. Ask for the autonomy to make decisions. Get feedback on how you are doing. 

Inspire Commitment. Leaders are all in. Their Vision, Courage, and Tenacity inspire others to be all in. Without full commitment it is difficult to accomplish worthwhile goals. Be inspired and take others with you. 

Building Collaborative Relationships. Emotional Intelligence is important for team building and working to create solutions. Communication skills as well as Active Listening can pose a team leader as good material for further advancement. Volunteer for projects or spot problems that need a solution. Lead a team to come to a consensus. 

Develop the skills of leadership and begin doing the work of leaders before the title and soon you will have one.
