Leaders are Molded not Born so anyone can begin on their path to leadership and promotions. How are swords made sharp? They are honed. They begin as a bar of metal and a craftsman begins to hone the shape and then sharpness.
Becoming a leader begins from many acts of molding. Continuous learning begins the path of acquiring knowledge and skills that can support employees in their profession. Every ship needs a captain, and leaders have to learn the captain's skills.
Athletes become Olympians with repetition of their skills until they exceed those who don't have the talent or have not dedicated the same amount of time. We are born with certain capabilities through our genes but many a potentially great athlete has dissipated their talent with lack of discipline.
Actors become starts through practice and persistence. It takes up to ten years on average for an actor to get recognition. In that time, they attend a lot of workshops, work with mentors, and wait on a lot of tables. Ask Stevie Nicks who was a waitress first.
Entrepreneurs seed an idea and fight the resistance to it growing into a mature oak. Resistance is the world saying, you'll have to bring more than that to the table. Resilience is what the entrepreneur needs to keep trying. Elon Musk brought EVs into existence while taking on the entire auto industry. Never giving up has to be in the Leader's DNA to persist through insurmountable odds.
I coach people to climb the ladder that has lots of resistance. It is difficult to get recognized for your contribution, it is difficult to become influential. It is difficult to get mentorship and support from superiors. It is difficult to get past the internal and external resume competition to be selected.
And yet, your process is no different than Elon Musk. Create your Vision. Determine your strategy. Consider your resources, Gather intelligence. Start the Daily Plan. Don't stop.
