Job Retention is Important in Volatile Times

We are in volatile times with fluctuating interest rates, a change in political status, potential trade wars, geopolitical unrest, and the advent of job wrecking AI. This is a good time to bolster your status at work.

Job retention and pursuing a promotion are closely tied in creating a Plan. When organizations are going to fill a leadership gap or evaluate who they keep and who they let go, the same skills can be important.

Focus on Personal Improvement practices, These improve who you are and how you show up. Executive Presence is at the top of the list which includes a heavy dose of Emotional Intelligence. Communication skills are how you convey ideas clearly and garner respect. This is a good time for relationship building and vertical networking.

Getting promoted and job retention also necessitate and understanding of power and politics in your organization. Who has the decision-making power to reward and punish? What are the power positions that control information and resources? Who is in charge of the pet projects and how do you get invited to work on them?

Politics can be improved by getting mentors and sponsors. They are in good positions, and they can both recommend you and protect you. If there are going to be promotions, layoffs, mergers, or other major changes, these people will have the information.

Learn leadership skills and develop entrepreneurial thinking. Both are important for promotions and creating your value in times of change. Organizations need employees to be adaptable and people who can lead through change.

Don't stay static. The work you love might need to be protected by also insuring your prominence.
