Success is a Leap from Here to There
anxiety, depression, burnout, personal development

We oversimplify the complex and underestimate the simple. Success is a leap from here to there and we often find ourselves so engaged in daily non-essentials; we can't see the forest for the trees. Big organizations have the same issues as individuals.

It is difficult to get clarity on the Vision because few people take the time to articulate what would they desire to achieve in their lives and what success would look like when they arrive. I have found that Organizations have a Mission, but there is frequently no straight line between where they are today and what success would look like when they arrive. Tesla is a good example of one of the most valuable companies continually losing its way.

I had to reevaluate my journey several times as I seemed to lose track of where all my daily efforts were leading me. It is easy to get lost in the tactics and not see how they lead to the Big Picture. The Big Picture needs a strategy. Then we need the action plan. And most important is the Personal Development practices that keep our head above water and our enthusiasm steady.

I learned that it is valuable to take the time necessary to articulate as many details in our Vision as possible. I have a Vision of income, car, residence, lifestyle, travel, and contribution. My strategy is a clear path and includes becoming world famous for my work. My daily plans are time blocked with the most crucial activities each day getting the highest priority. At least at the end of the day, I can look back on steps I took to move the needle.

What can be frustrating is working to exhaustion and not be clear on how it helped move the needle or in which direction the needle is now pointing. This is a quick path to burnout.  If we have a Vision, we may need to get the support of others. If we are a leader, we will want to include others in shaping that Vision and ensuring buy in.

Personal Development is the most rewarding of my practices with a good morning routine, relaxation and exercise breaks, mindfulness, self-reflection, and self-compassion. I move fast and expect to break a few eggs.
